I would consider it but I'm a lot more confident with any version of 8.1 running StandbyHelper.

And my computer sleeps too. And, Orbital, I thought I offered up a rather scientific way to get at the root of the problem <sniff sniff> by starting with the changes MS made when they rewrote Windows 8. <sniff>

Seriously, I don't see how we can search for the cause when it's so elusive. Yet, there's gotta be a common thread running through all the partial solutions that have been found.

And that's another thing . . . what does StandbyHelper have that Microsoft's Windows 8.1 doesn't? If y'all can figure that one out, maybe there could be a permanent solution.

I'm guessing that W8 has all kinds of embedded overrides to prevent sleep for legitimate reasons that StandbyHelper ignores. Problem is W8 seems to have lost control of the situation with all the exceptions

Lots of good posts and hard work lately. You should be congratulated on your perseverance (or stubbornness).

As I think Wy said, there are multiple issues in Win8.1 that is causing sleep to fail with some people having one issue and others having another. That is why most people sleep fine, some people find one solution that fixes it, and others find another issue that works, others are just SOL. If there is a proposed solution that worked for some but not for others, try it out. Your sleep problem may be different than the folks where the solution did not work.

As for the scientific method of changing one variable at a time, that usually does not work with windows as one change affects many other processes. When I disabled IPV6, my computer slept but killed my Homegroup which I needed. I also tried a step by step build of a new copy of Win8.1 but had sleep fail before I had loaded in a single third party program so I have not bothered to look at anything except windows for an answer (but again, my sleep issue may not be YOUR sleep issue! so the Logitech driver could be a valid fix for someone else, just not for me).

Finally, killing Settingsynchost is a tad difficult as it is embedded throughout windows, heh: (Click on picture to enlarge, use close button in bottom right to close)

I turned off Sync settings in OneDrive just to see if it fixes sleep tho.

Disabling OneDrive sync settings did not fix my sleep issue.

I have sync settings in onedrive off and my comp is sleeping very reliably. But, like you say, John, this is NO guarantee for everyone. And we all know my comp might go back to non sleeping at any time. Maybe after a couple of months I will claim success! But another update may ruin it!!!

Mine seemed to become more stable after the last round of updates on 15 May. But maybe I'm imagining that.

Lin, I believe you. I had very reliable sleep after the MS Dec update, but it stopped sleeping after a subsequent MS update a couple of months later (I think- who knows?).

I cringe every time there's a new update, Lin! Do I want to let it install? Do I not want to let it install?

Those who have sleep problems love the new updates, those who don't don't!!
