Sportsman, my desktop is Windows 8.1 Update Core and the laptop is Windows 8.1 Update Pro. The desktop Core system is working all the way as it should. I'm pretty sure I'll be doing a reinstall of Windows 8.1 Pro to the laptop because things aren't all that great over here.

As I still had them, I unplugged my Logitech Unifying Receiver for the Keyboard and Mouse, all of a sudden the Screen Saver cut in and a short time later it went to sleep.

I have tried this numerous times and it always was the same. Disconnect the unifying receiver and it would do what it is supposed too. If I plug the Logitech Unifying Receiver in, then it will not go back to sleep.

I am not totally sure it is their equipment all of the time, because I have a Logitech Unifying Receiver, with a different mouse for my Laptop and it has never ever caused me a problem. So I would have to suspect it is a combination of drivers causing the issue.

    FYI
Sportsman, remove the battery from your Logitech wireless mouse and then your keyboard or put them far away from the computer. Perhaps one of them is being kept alive and pinging the computer all the time.

Just a fwiw, I have the Logitech G19 wired usb keyboard, and the Logitech G400 usb mouse.
Windows 8.1 sleeps fine on my system.

I am getting a little smarter each time I look at this subject. I removed all of the Logitech software through "Programs". I then plugged in the Logitech unifying receiver and connected the mouse. The mouse worked and the computer went to sleep. I checked on the driver being used and it is a Microsoft driver, which I would presume is an older driver to cover all generic mice.

I then connected the keyboard and it came up with a Microsoft driver as well and computer goes to sleep. So obviously it is the Logitech software that is no good, at least for my computer. Going to try some more stuff a bit later.

You guys talked about Logitech... it's funny... I didn't bother to mention I've got issues as well with the unifying receiver. Their software, drivers, all of it is a piece of shit. They didn't bother to update to Win 8.1!! And I don't think that's gonna happen soon.

I've noticed that TURN OFF DISPLAY had an issue and could cause crashes or messing up with sleep, so I've set "TURN OFF DISPLAY" to "NEVER" then 20 min for my sleep timer. It works perfectly. I've removed all their trashy software and I use generic drivers. That's enough for me since I don't need advanced features for my K800 keyboard and my M525 mouse.

But my my... Logitech makes garbage software, that is a fact avoid it at any cost. it sucks a lot of resources for no added value. Curse them!! lol

It has been proven many times over history. Those who make great hardware often produce bad software and vice versa. For instance, I think about Asus, Logitech, etc...

I have 6 computers that are doing just fine running Logitech and ASUS. Never had any sort of problem with Logitech drivers. I have been using their mice for 15 years now. Same with ASUS, I cannot recall any driver or BIOS update that did not work and I have bought 20+ mobos from them over the years. I do not like ASUS utilities but that is my own preference.

Orbit, it's too bad you have had such bad luck with them (and I am sure you can find sites that also have had troubles with their software), but have any of your problems with the drivers been related with sleep?

Got a wireless Logitech M310 USB mouse with Logitech driver dated May 2013. I am sure this is no problem here as my machine sleeps reliably on a local account.

Same here, John . . . I have one computer with the Logitech mouse/keyboard with the unifying receiver with the latest updates and no issues at all.
