can't edit documents in windows 8. Get blue dotted line

I have things like resumes I need to update, but when I try to click on any area of the document, I instead get a dotten blue line around the entire doc, and it won't let me edit. Didn't happen until I got windows 8. Help please? (Even if I copy and try to make a new doc it still happens.)

What word processor are you using? IF MS Office what version and have you tried using WordPad?

It may be running in "Compatibility Mode" -So save it as a regular "Doc" file, not a "Docx" file. and then open THAT.

I have office 2007. Tried word pad and same thing happens, only with a solid black line around it. Have tried saving it all sorts of ways and I still get the dotting blue line and the inability to edit. Thanks for your help. Any other ideas? (It doesn't happen with all my documents---just the ones I really need.

Can you elaborate on what this really means? Are you saying that "some" office 2007 documents open correctly and others do not?

yes, some open correctly and others do not. (Or rather some I can open and edit, and others open but when I try to edit they get the broken blue line around the doc and won't let me edit.)

Were the ones you can't open created under a different version of Office originally (or do they have a different extension)?

If the content in the document was in fact a graphic it would do what you describe. Any chance that is what is going on?

I think they were all under office 7 -but I have tried re-saving different ways and it doesn't make a difference.

OK I found out what this is, you saved them using the Legal Blackline Option. I don't know if this is reversavle. So, you should oepn the doc, hit Ctrl A and copy all of it, open a new Non Blackline Doc, and paste it in.

Compare documents with the Legal blackline option - Word - Office.com
