    Windows 8 Kiosk Demo?

    Hey there,

I like collecting store demos of products, and one that's caught my attention is the one for Windows 8. It plays a little "here's what your computer can do" video over and over, and lets you use all the features.

I notice it has a sample Microsoft account called Allison Brown.

I've tried copying all the hard drive contents off one of those demos to a flash drive, but it won't run on my regular computers. I also notice that if I use the "reset your PC" option on the kiosk demos, it'll turn into a regular Windows 8 without the demo stuff.

Is there some special installation disc/flash drive for retailers? I'm just curious - it's OK if nobody's allowed to distribute it due to legal reasons, but I was just curious how that demo was installed... obviously just copying the executables and trying to run them does not work.

I've even seen Windows RT demos with the Allison Brown account!

On that note, there used to be a "Windows Demo Experience" for Windows 7 that would show your computer's specs in a nifty little screen - same thing applies to that, I tried copying the files (I even used clonezilla and made a complete clone of a kiosk demo) and it doesn't run on anything. I'd love to know how to get a copy just for informational and collection purposes.

Nope. Half the laptops now don't even have optical drives since they're small - only USB ports. I'm thinking they load the software from some sort of install image, but that install image is what I'd like to find.

I don't have a copy at all, I'm asking if anyone knows how to get one.

I'm talking about retail stores (Best Buy, Walmart, whatever) that sell computers. They usually have a demo version of Windows 8 that doesn't save any settings after about 20 minutes so that people don't screw it up. But it also has some neat videos on "what Windows can do for you"

Oh, yeah I cloned one, but that was from Windows 7. All the Windows 8 demos use UEFI secure boot so even if I got a hard drive or copied one, I couldn't run it on my machine since it would have a different hardware signature or whatever (this is why I hate UEFI by the way)

With the Windows 7 one I tried to load it up in VMWare as a virtual machine and it didn't work.

Windows 8 Kiosk Demo?

Hi. I was thinking about using Win 8.1s kiosk mode, but so far I have read I can only use it on one program as default. Can I still use it if I have multiple programs like IE, Word and so on installed. Just having the icons on the desktop and lock the desktop down.
