Cannot open library folders

I don't know when it happened, and I don't know how it happened, although I suspect it could be due to the last set of updates I downloaded.. All I know is that for some reason, I cannot access my library folders.

Double clicking on the folders does absolutely nothing. I get no errors of any kind either. This is what I've done so far to try and fix the problem:

1) chkdsk /spotfix (no bad sectors found)

2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (the component store corruption was repaired, whatever that means)

3) sfc /scannow (all files verified successfully)

4) Deleted library folders and then reset to default (did not work)

5) Windows 7 library registry fix (did not work)

None of these worked, and I'm at my wits end. I can still access the actual information thank God, by going to C:\Users. But I'd still like to be able to use the library function.

I can't believe something so seemingly simple could be so difficult to fix.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Hard drive health is good right now. You're right about Windows 8 being really susceptible to developing bad sectors and corrupt data from hard resets and power loss. If I had known it was this bad, I would have been more proactive in trying to prevent them. Windows 7 is a lot more robust in that regard.

I was testing my overclocks on my graphics cards which is why I had to hard reset so often. Anyway, I'll consider the repair install. Another thing I was considering was doing the upgrade to Windows 8.1 preview. How does that work? Once the actual OS is released, I suppose I will get the option to do the full upgrade to 8.1, but not revert back to Windows 8 right?

I don't mind reinstalling drivers and what not, but I have a lot of games that I downloaded from Steam and Origin. Those are what I really don't want to download again, as it would take forever.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but I am also having this issue. When I click on the Library folders nothing happens. I can still access them through the drive but it is an annoying problem for my work PC. I have tried deleting and resetting them. Is there a solution for this other than backing everything up and re-installing Windows?

Thanks.
