Well Jack each to his own my friend and I am NOT blaming Windows 8 for anything what gave you that idea is beyond me. It was my fault for downloading what I thought would give me an easier way of finding my way around inside 8 which I do like because of the speed. I just do not like hunting through all those yuppy panels for what I want. Perhaps I should have stuck with 7 if this is the reaction I am gong to get from being in this forum.

Nar, I put a start menu on and de-metrod my Win8 - it's now the update to Win7 that is should of been.

Hum John I just tried that one and the other that Bassfisher referred to but it didn't do a thing. So I unistalled them both. I'll try again but the machine still opens with WIN+X to a list of functions I pick the desktop and it goes to it without the Start orb.

I'll try again it is just because I had msconfig CMD prompt and regedit as in the Start menu in 7 that I liked that view and I was just really a little tired of flipping back and forth through the panels to find what I wanted instead of having them all in one spot. I am not against 8 and I am not against improvement and change I get it all the time at work and for the most part it is for the betterment of what one is doing - but I do object to being ribbed for liking what I do and the new panel look is just not my cup of tea.

Have you checked your system for spyware, malware, trojan and rootkits...I would run Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware and TDSSKiller (rootkit) in safemode.

The problem has only been here since upgrading to 8. I block the URL in my KISS only to find it pops up a different site.

Actually I have just thought maybe this has something to do with this IObit Start Menu 8 Free download, Bring Start Menu back to Windows 8

Your mention of the iOS IPA sort of got me thinking perhaps it is being sponsored by whoever through that site - I will try uninstalling this tonight and see what happens. It is just I don't like the panels I much prefer the old 7 Start screen.

If it means going to the panel screen then I might just flip back in the drive with the 7 on it - pity cos I like the speed of the 8 OS.

YES - DO NOT download ANY IObit cack, it's all viruses. I made the mistake of installing something that was attached to IMGburn, and I had to wipe my drive, there was no fixing it.

That was the first thing I asked him to do, he did find a couple of things, but these IE Hijackers come up with new ways to hijack your IE and you have to wait for new versions of TDSSkiller to catch it all.

As far as Start Menus for 8, stick with Start8 or Classic Shell, those are the best ones. Yah- If it was an IObit app, it installed all kinds of toolbars and crapola and IE hijackers which run IE in Hidden Mode. That's where the popups are coming from. You can't block them, you have to remove the subsystem which is serving up the pages. It is probably part of the program so get rid of it and install Classic Shell which is free.

John, I did the same thing, and feel the same way.

I've been tweaking and customising my W8 setup since it went on last new Year, and now I think it's just about perfect. Well, for me, at least.

The only real plus I've found in 8.1 is the new Start/All Apps screens and the options to customise All Apps, the ability to boot to desktop and go to All Apps instead of the Start screen when the 'Start button' is clicked, and the extras in the bottom-left right-click menu.

If I could put them into 8, without having to use 8.1, I'd be in OS heaven...

    Wenda.
