Auto in/out Standby for Unattended TV Recording Needed

Please redirect if this isn't the proper location for this post.

I do a lot of scheduled recording with my W8/x64, tuner card, Xbox extender set up. I've been using MCE Standby Tool to be able to automatically go in and out of standby or hibernate mode for unattended recording. It worked great until I upgraded to W8 and now won't go into Standby again automatically after recording a program. Their tech support is non-existent. I'm looking for an alternative if anyone knows of a good one.

    Thanks!!!

WMP and MCE in Windows 8 have been stripped of all kinds of support. It may be that the extender is not installing the files needed for you to be able to do this. Is there a remote for the Xbox that has these functions on it? You may need to see if there are updated versions of the support files for this. It's an interaction between the Card and the Xbox extender, so it has to depend on support files for both things plus whatever is in Windows 8's MCE. When you added it to Windows 7, did it run you through a Wizard, and did that Wizard seem a little abbreviated when you did it with Windows 8?

Sorry, I have not messed with Extenders that much, in any version of Windows. except for an old TV tuner card I have, and there are no new MCE files for it.

If this is needed for institutional use, I'd stick with what worked, if it worked in Windows 7, that's what you are gong to have to keep running to keep the functionality. Windows 8 has all kinds of improvements for playback of Media, but there have been huge oversights for stuff like Media Extenders, I've heard about a lot of things that worked in 7, but don't work at all in 8. Since you are just recording, I'd stick with 7.

I think they might expect you to use the Metro "Video" App for this, open that up and see if your extender has shown up in that tile.

Thanks for the reply. Since posting this, I've found that I can do it myself via "Wake on LAN" settings. I haven't tried it yet but it seems pretty straight forward. The settings are probably on the PC end rather than the Xbox end.

You have to use a Remote for Wake on Lan? I've never used it, sound slike a good idea if you can get it set up. We'll have to find someone who is more familiar with using it.

I was just wondering, most of the motherboards I have that have WOL have to have some kind of IR remote. Maybe I'm thinking of Wake on Modem? I'll ask Shawn maybe he knows how to set it up. I'll send him a link here. Ok, done, maybe he can make heads or tails out of this.
