system imaging missing from Windows 8?

I recently purchased an Asus X202E laptop with Windows 8. I immediately did an update for all important/critical Windows updates, but beyond that, I haven't added or changed anything else.
When I run the "File Recovery for Windows 7" I do not see the ability to create a system image. I'd like to create a system image on a 32Gb USB drive but the option is not there. I've rebooted, and done lots of searching on the internet but, so far, I haven't seen any instances where anyone else has reported this feature to be missing.

I do have access to TrueImage 2013, but I wanted to see how the native imaging product stacked up against it.

    Anyone have any ideas?

You are correct; in that, the inherent Windows System Imaging capability has not been provided with the 8.1 Preview. However, there is a way to use Power Shell to image your PC but I would recommend using Macrium Reflect Free as an alternative:

Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

Works like a top on 8.1 Preview! Good luck.

So, does this answer your question and have you been helped today? If so, please mark this thread as solved. Thank you.

OK, I'm assuming by your answer that my updates brought my version up to 8.1 (can't look now because I'm at work). But why am I seeing screen shots of this feature in various internet posts/sites? Is it because it was included in some version of Windows 8 and not 8.1?

I guess I don't understand if I have 8.1 from the windows updates or if my machine came that way.

OOPs! Sorry I mistook your version to be 8.1 Preview. Forget my last post.

Windows System Imaging capability is still there.. its just hidden; see screenshot:

Sorry for the confusion. Simply type "backup" in the search box, click the top result, click Win 7 file recovery, you are now on the correct screen to image your PC.

So, hopefully this answers your question, and, if you have been helped, please mark this thread as solved. Thank you.

But this is the point of my whole post. I don't see the "create a system image" in the Windows 7 File Recovery File window as one of the options. I see see create a system repair disc though...

I did create a recovery drive on a 16Gb flash drive, took about 10 minutes.
I cannot find the OEM manufacturer OEM recovery disk option anywhere, but still looking.

So, you are confirming the "create a system image" choice is missing above the system repair disk option?

Wow! You got me on this one then. I can only confirm that it should be there and it is on all my Windows 8.0 machines. So, I'm just wondering if your third-party application might have something to do with the disappearance of that link/capability?
