Graphic Problems (?) in Windows 8

I just bought an HP Pavillion 15 Notebook PC (Windows 8 64-bit, AMD A6-5350M APU with Radeon HD Graphics).

When I open up an Office product (Office 365 for University), or open up Internet Explorer (I use IE 10.0.9200.16484), I get weird things on the screen.

The first photo is what it looks like when I open Excel:
Click image for larger version (larger size: office-problem | Flickr - Photo Sharing!)

The second is what a Google Map image looks like on the National Weather Service website:
Click image for larger version(larger size: 2 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!)

The third is if I look at a page on Wikipedia:
Click image for larger version(larger size: 1 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!)

(And sorry if this is the wrong place, I just didn't know where to put it because I don't know what kind of a problem it is)

Wow! Sure looks like some kind of driver issue at first glance. Now, if I were in your shoes, I would go here:

HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC series

Then click on the link for your specific model and download (and reinstall) the graphics drivers. FYI, I have seen similar issues when one allows Windows Update to "update device drivers." Good luck.

Well, I downloaded the drivers again, and restarted the computer, and actually, the problem seems worse now, because now even the Welcome Screen doesn't display properly, and neither do websites like MSN or Facebook. And still the same with Office.

You have any way to test your Graphics Card? Like one of those programs that run through the gamut of video output? I used to use Passmark Performance Test for that, but I havent updated the program for a long time, they ought to have a trial version at least.

While the laptop is on if you move the screen does the image flicker? You might have a either bad cable or a loose cable. Or like the others said a driver issue.

If the driver reinstall didn't work and you just bought it new, I would return it pronto for either a new laptop or a refund.

Also, does the laptop have any HDMI or SVGA output? Try plugging it in to an external monitor, and see if the problem is transferred over to that. Is it just on these programs that it looks like this? Most modern Video Drivers have separate settings you can choose for specific apps, try messing with those.

It did have slightly different shapes if I moved the laptop screen.

It has HDMI and VGA outputs.

I just exchanged it for the same model laptop at Costco today, and this new one (the one I'm using right now to type this) is working just fine.

Thanks, everybody, for all your help!
