Hi all,
my first message to this nice forum and please be kind with my english :)

The question in about file chronology in Win8 pro:

say it's enabled and everything has worked for some time;
now suppose my main hard-disk fails, i mean hard failure: it's broken now
but file chronology was enable in an external healthy drive,
will i be able to restore all my files to the "most recent status" to the
new drive? (where the document folder will be empty ) and i mean
without having to search dates and a file by file search of course :)

thanks

Roy.

Hi Roy,

I think you're referring to File History (FH). Yes, you should be able to restore not only to the most recent versions, but any previous versions saved by FH. The latter depends on how frequently your files are updated (think of editing Word documents) and copied to an external drive per FH settings.

The only scenario when you may not get the most recent versions is when your external drive has been disconnected for some time. In this case FH caches your versions locally and transfers them when you reconnect the drive. Therefore, if your HDD gets broken under this scenario, you local cache is gone.

Thanks for your answer Vadikan,

yes it's File History,
file chronology is how it's called on the "italian localized windows",

Roy.
