I will try turning off all syncs.
The cursors were downloaded from the internet named rainbow cursors. (worked fine in XP)
I did save the pointer set up as a theme.

Turned off all syncs with no effect. I will just give up since W8 does not want to cooperate?

I'm sure we can find out what is causing this, I urge you not to give up on 8, it really is a fine OS once you get it set to your liking.

Ok, I set my Cursors to a theme I use sometimes. I logged out, logged back in and when my system came back up, it was using the default Cursors. So even told my other system to use these cursors, but they have not been shared yet. I think it's "Desktop Personalization" which brings Cursors over to another PC.

OK, we will keep working on this since it is also happening to others .

If you have more than one Windows 8 in the network and using the same MS account, it is probably one of the machines being given priority, therefore resetting itself to the default cursor. I'll have to turn Personalization Sync back on to see what happens with my systems.

I have only one W8 system and have tried the syncs on and off, made the recommended reg changes and back.
    Nothing has worked so far.

I tried, "use default" and a message ask if I wanted to replace the default setting. I clicked yes
so I will see what happens.

Hm - SO it actually did have your Cursor set loaded it seems. Is this an installable Cursor set? How are you adding the Cursors? I had to make a Package which installed the Cursors into where the Cursors are stored.

I changed each item by going to Windows, cursors and selecting the ones I wanted and then apply and save.
