I use note pad for my txt files yet win 8 has set it as word pad by default. When I trying remove the check box for txt in word pad, it refused to allow me to do that.

At the same time, I cannot edit my raw html pages on the server as the pages come up as either IE or FF program that open the real view of the page that can not be edit live as it impossible to do so in the first. Even if I try removing the check box for html for FF, not allow too.

How do I get rid of crap default setting by Win 8 as I have never had this issues for any OS starting with win95 beta??

default program = control panel = set program = list = word pad = chose default = check box = failure to uncheck. Same for FF

This has only happen in the last month or so and have made no changes to cause this.

Tap your Windows Key and type Default, you should see Default Programs show up. You can also get to this in Control Panel.

Press Enter, and choose Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Select the file type you want to change and choose Change Program in the upper right. Select the program you want to use from the list, if the program is not in the list click "More Options" and if it's not in that list click "Look for another app on this PC", navigate to note pad, and you're done.

The Set Program Associations does not remove associations, it only adds them. Meaning, if a filetype is NOT selected, you can select it and click save to make it start using that file type. Unchecking and clicking save does not REMOVE a filetype. Use the Set Associations for the specific filetype instead.
