well that was not it this is puzzling me so as i dont like this behavior at all i have programs i like to see like news and stuff and this whatever it is is dropping me to the desktop. any other ideas what could be doing this?. only other thing i notes that loads is TM server for my total media theater stuff but i dont think that is doing it.
Right click on your menu bar and then left click properties. Taskbar and start menu properties should pop up. On one of the tabs there are some new features such as start in desktop or something to that effect. Check to see if the box is ticked for starting in desktop. If it is un-tick the box and save. Reboot and see if it opens the way you want. Sorry I can't be more precise because I am on Windows 8 right now and don't have access to the W8.1. Post back with your results.
Sorry Tony all of the hype over 8.1 has my mind thinking 8.1. Are you using Firefox web browser and is it the default browser? If you are using Internet Explorer do you get the modern look when accessing via the tiles and the traditional look when opening from the desktop icon?
I like Bing desktop. I noticed that it used to kick the system to the desktop when it was first introduced to 8. After a few weeks I noticed it ceased. My thoughts were that they fixed it so as not to do so.
Perhaps even after you uninstalled it, it left a unwanted setting in the registry? Search for the word "Bing" in Regedit. It may show it. Be careful when in the registry, though.
hmm will look into it oh i use google chrome and yes it has the modern interface look. I don't understand why it is doing this but it really is bugging me.
On second thought, I don't think it's Bing desktop for I know they fixed that, however it is a start up desktop program. There's got to be another desktop program opening. That's the only reason why the desktop would open.
Reboot and let it finish. Open Task Manager to see if there's any desktop or Win32 programs running. That's the only thing I can think of.
i did that a while back for another issue and it did not fix this issue near as i can figure something is dropping it to desktop but what i have no clue.
Any program that starts up that is not a modern app will most likely cause windows to switch to the desktop while it's loading. This is particularly true if the app displays a splash screen of some type. You say you are loading some apps at startup, and that is most likely the case.. Try disabling them from startup (use TaskManager, go to the Startup Tab, select these items and click the Disable button)
Maybe his BING was an original version? I know they have updated it several times in the last few months. See if you an get the newest version then. I never use cack like that so I never allow it go get into my system
