Yes,
I have to admit that one thing is correct about the Windows 8.1 what-ever-it-is-thingy....
they got the logo right, "A Fish Out of Water...", because that describes this mess, perfectly...
I installed this into a VMPlayer environment and 1/2 of my software wouldn't install (usually a Net.Framework error) or (a certain Windows version was required), Media Center (Netflix is broke, My Movies is broke), but I thought okay VMPlayer probably is the issue here..
so,
burned my .iso and did a hard disk install, and lo and behold, the exact same results, it had nothing to do with VMPlayer...most things simply wouldn't install or not run, trying to use the compatibility tool was next to worthless, but even still, I decided to check out what they had done.
what a worthless collection of garbage...let's review
1.) Start Icon... (everyone already knows its a joke, why even bother)
2.) Windows App Store.. could they have screwed this up any worse? not only have they put another layer of useless visuals, but when you actually start to view the apps, they are on 2 LINES ONLY , gee.. now it will, only take 4x as long, to scroll through thousands of useless apps. They didn't even add any categories.
3.) Adding new items to start menu, now it, has one more layer you have to go through get it on there. WHY would they even change this? ... I just don't understand their reasoning.
4.) the new backgrounds... personally I think they are hideous, I hope they include the old ones, but I can't deduct a point for that.
5.) lack of compatibility...I suppose this will be addressed in the final version, but how would we know?
6.) the removal of the WEI tool...why would they want to remove the Windows Experience Index?
7.) changing Computer to this PC is okay but why change the libraries view? ... but now I am just getting nit-picky
other than additional sizes on the Start Screen, I see nothing here, really worthwhile, oh I forgot the new search options (only because I rarely, rarely use this).....it is just getting harder and harder to use Windows.
what really irks me though, is that there was talk of charging people for this so-called hodge podge?? now that's truly insane.
But, at least we have a new logo... even, if everything else seems a little fishy
