transfer files from a drive of anther PC problem

I need to copy data from a drive which I removed from an old PC (was running XP but no longer bootable, all the data is still there and working though) to Windows 8, however it doesn't work as I expected at all as you need to go through all those permission hassles and in this case there are too many files to bother, and I can't use that Windows Easy Transfer as the old PC is not working, any other ways to go about this?

Mount it as a 2nd drive in your Win 8 computer or attach via a USB Universal Drive Adapter. Use the Take Ownership context menu entry to take ownership of the entire drive or at least the folders you want to get data from. Then copy them to the Win 8 computer.
