Ok, I tried making two shortcuts to my C drive and my D drive, neither of those would even add to the Jumplist. I'm talking, drag the folder out to the desktop and choose "Create Shortcut here" - The only way I can add to the Jump Start menu is by dragging the folder DIRECTLY down there, and then it adds to the JL. Are we trying to add the folders directly on to the taskbar? It just doesn't seem to work that way, except for the Libraries folder, not on 8 at least. But Windows 8 Manager has a custom Jump List maker, I'll try that.

Ok, here is what it allowed me to do:

It will not allow me to put the FOLDER right5 on the bar, but it allowed me to make a special Jump List, but it is still nothing different than just adding the folders to the Library Jumplist. If the idea is to put a special folder link right on the task bar, it cannot be done, not outside of a Jump List, and the Jump List maker only allows that ugly icon.

What I've done to get around my issue is to disable libraries (default behavior in win8.1). Doing so means File Explorer will open to "This PC" (which is what I wanted minus the Libraries shortcuts on the left hand side of File Explorer). I then added shortcuts to the individual Libraries in the "Favorites" section of File Explorer.

There's an option in 8.1 that controls libraries appearance in the navigation pane (right-click there to see it).

Libraries - Add or Remove from Navigation Pane in Windows 8 Explorer

    • When libraries are displayed there, the File Explorer shortcut on the taskbar opens Libraries (exactly the same way as in Windows 7 and 8)
    • When libraries are not displayed in the navigation pane, the File Explorer shortcut opens This Computer.

It's not obvious, but makes sense

Even though this was posted a few months ago, just wanted to say thanks for this suggestion. Worked perfectly for me.

I have yet to play around with the rtm version of 8.1 (I have the preview) but I suspect it's the same behaviour.
