Annoying cursor activity!

I'm new to Windows 8 and have discovered an annoying activity where the right hand side bar appears when I am moving the cursor elsewhere on the screen and the cursor jumps to the right hand side of the screen. Trying to move the cursor away proves difficult but it does eventually. I am using the touch pad to control the cursor not a mouse. Is there a way to turn this side bar off. It really is most frustrating!

Here's how to:

1) Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\

2) Under ImmersiveShell key, create a new key EdgeUI.

3) Select newly created key "EdgeUI" and in right-side pane, create a new DWORD DisableCharmsHint and set its value to 1

Done !

To enable it again set the value to 0

Maybe he has Smart Gesture enabled? Stevech are you on an Asus laptop?

Ok finally I am not alone.

I have the same problem. The cursor will also freeze up briefly when using other apps and the instead top bars will appear, I am forced to swiggle (a type of swipe and wiggle of the finger on the touch pad) in order to get the mouse/cursor to function correctly. I tried the "RUN" option above and windows will error that this dose not exists. I am admin on an ACER ASPIRE E1 AMD A4 522-5603 NIB less then a week old and it has been doing this since day one. I have played with the sensitivity options for the pad but to no avail.

Hm, what happens when you hit the Pad with two fingers over on the right side, does it bring up the right-click panel? This is what Apples do with their new touchpads, and the Asus Smart Gesture works the same way. Acer may use the same hardware.

It works fine but this is a random issue. The side bar or the program I am in top bar will appear and stop the cursor until I tap back on the program screen. It is as if I slide the cursor to the right asking for the side bar but the cursor is still in the middle of the screen and the program freezes as it would when you ask for the start bar. I have looked everywhere for some sort of option that might lead to a fix within w8 but I can only find a sensitivity scale for the finger pad.

Sounds just like buggy software that controls the Pad, is there an upgrade for it? Maybe even roll back the driver.

Ok it has been six days and I can find no fix. I downloaded the latest drivers from ACER and still no fix. I was watching a video last night and had to pause it and go deal with something. When I came back to move the mouse to hit play the "start" sidebar came up with the date calendar and I had to wiggle the cursor so I could get to the video play button. So much for the help guys.

Gah! Are there settings for the Touchpad where you can disable the properties that are causing this? Sound to me like the pad is responding to some gesture you make have done. Can those be shut off, so it acts like a mouse and not an apple touchpad?

Is it one large plate, no left and right buttons? Usually with those, a two fingered tap on the right side acts as a right-click, and any contact with the side of the pad causes the screen to scroll, or maybe the Charm Bar to popup. I'd have to see the user manual for the thing, to see what the default pad settings are.

I found out what was happening to the original problem, at least with the touchpad. Moving a finger in from the immediate right hand edge toward the centre brings up the side bar (irrespective of where the cursor actually is). I just avoid that part of the touchpad now. Still happens occasionally but not as annoying as before.

You'll just have to avoid that area, or shut off that gesture.

And how does one shut off that gesture?
