    Windows 8 Makes me ILL!

I don't know whether anyone else has had this problem, but since I started using the 'Tiles' I have been suffering with headaches and dizzyness! I get this same problem when I try to watch one of those bloody movies that have that silly 'shaky camera' effects for no reason.

I think this is from the fact that the 'Tiles' move from right to left. Why didn't Microsoft make them move up and down? After all, when you use a Windows Phone (which I also own) they move up and down. Sort of more natural I think that sideways.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Does anyone else have these headache or dizzyness problems?

I've now had to stop using the Tiles interface and use just the Desktop with Start8 installed.

    Hello manwithdog,

For your own safety and health, I would strongly recommend that you pay a visit to your doctor and tell him/her about your headache and dizzyness problems. This could be a sign of a serious health issue if left untreated.

It wouldn't hurt to also see an eye doctor as well if it's just the strain on your eyes from staring at the monitor causing this.

Take care of yourself and heed my advice.

Thanks for your concern Shawn. However I am in 100% health.

I suppose the way that this affects me is similar to those people who cannot handle strobe lights, heights etc.etc. Now I'm using the desktop (like Windows 7) I am feeling perfectly fine again! lol.

I guess you can add me to the thousands that won't be using Microsoft's Modern UI interface.

I would STILL like to know though why they thought that moving the screen from right to left seemed 'normal'?

Me too, but I also get dizzy sometimes. You can install Classic Shell and configure it through Advanced settings to boot straight to Desktop and choose the Aero Program Menu. This solves most of the Tiles Dizziness problems. If you don't want to do that, there is Stardock Start 8 which gives the best Start Menu experience (for 5 bucks) and there are a few other replacements as well, just search for Windows 8 Start Menu Replacements.

Welcome to Windows 8 Forums, you will find a number of us who have modified our systems so that we never have to deal with tiles at all, I go to that side of the screen very rarely. Others, swear by it, and like it. I would not use Metro unless it is on a flat surface - Are you using a Touchscreen? the combined actions of moving through Metro and selecting tiles may be helping your vertigo.

I suggest 1) Watch Vertigo and pay special attention to the shots where the background moves in very fast. and 2) Stop "Moving your elbow that way" (ie, stop using Metro). Because the rest of the OS is great once you get a working Program Menu Replacement,

Thanks for that mate. Yes, I am already using Start8. Purchased that some time ago when I initially missed the start button. I don't have a touchscreen laptop just a normal screen one. That in itself is a good enough reason not to use Metro I suppose. Pity about all this, as I was just warming to it all. (sort of) lol.

It's really a good OS despite Metro. If it means anything, a lot of us in here agree with you on this. I treat it like Windows 7, and the last time I went in to Metro was yesterday when I checked some PC Settings. Before that, it had been weeks.

Is it only Windows 8 that gives you the dizzy spells? Even if it is, there may be some other underlying problem that you have. I certainly am not a doctor, but if a person gets these dizzy spells on a fairly regular basis I think it would be a good idea to see a doctor.

The annoying 'movement' is for beginners, just disable it and no more problems with that.
Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Settings.

    Here's what works good here:

Visual Effects - Adjust in Windows 8

I've applied it to Win7 and also Win8: no more delay movement just instant display.

Way better but I'm not sure about the headaches: stare less at the screen and blink the eyes more often.

    Cheers!

    Good to hear that.
I'm pretty sure others will follow that link as well. Thanks for sharing.

Seems my post doesn't cover the scrolling from left to right, if that was the problem, and yeah the screen can have many tiles so that's a long scroll... when on start, I just type the beginning letter of the program I need and it will be first displayed: better than scrolling.
