Restore Win Vista/7 behavior to Snipping tool?

Hi all, last time I actually logged in here was on Vista forums, thanks for keeping my login!

I actually jumped over 7 directly from Vista into 8... Setting up a new machine.

I'll have a few questions, this one's probably easy to answer: In Vista, the Snip tool started immediately with a new snip with the last used setting. In 8, currently I always have to hit the New button to start a snip - I suppose this behavior was changed to accommodate tablets or something...? Any tweaks to restore the Vista/7 behavior?

    TIA, --ch

That feature was actually removed. It's due to the "Metro" stuff. I'm afraid there is no way to get it back.

You may be correct, but I don't see it as anything to do with "metro". It may have been removed as an unneeded feature. Perhaps(?) users wanted to state their preference every time.

@Skulblaka: OK, thanks, I suspected/was afraid of that...

@davehc: I don't believe this functionality was removed because users requested it... They could always choose a new type of snip anyway.

Huh, davehc is correct, apparantly it's due to "customer" feedback. I find that ridiculous though, an option to disable this would have been more viable.

    Here's the video [13:50].

And you guys really believe M$ did anything due to the customers feedback and wishes. ??? That would be the first one.

Ran into this myself recently. I'm working with 32bit Windows 8 Pro. Taking the snippingtool.exe from a 64bit Win7 c:\windows\system32 and trying to use that in Win8 obviously gave me the error message that the program couldn't run on my current OS/processor.

Taking the snippingtool.exe from a 32bit WinVista c:\windows\system32, taking ownership of the Windows 8 file and renaming it, and copying the WinVista file in it's place did not work. The program does not open when double-clicked, even when I try running it as an administrator and running the troubleshoot compatibility wizard on it as WinXP, WinVista or Win7.

Having to press 'new snip' after opening the Snipping Tool is completely redundant, because if I didn't want to make a new snip, why would I have opened the Snipping Tool? I need a way to fix this so that Snipping Tool acts the way it did in WinVista and Win7 on Windows 8.-

Is there not a registry edit or something that can help?
