Windows 8 resetting thumbnail cache

Every time I turn my laptop on, I lose my thumbnails and it has to reload them. Seriously frustrating. I've tried today to go through a few refreshes/reinstalls, and I'll occasionally be able to keep them, but then I just start losing them again.

I've seen a few mentions of this - another thread on here, for example - but no functional solution. I've basically given up, and have gone about setting my laptop up fully again, but I thought I'd ask as maybe SOMEONE out there knows how to sort this. Thanks.

Here's a thought, #curtains, do you a program like CCleaner running at startup that is set to clean your system. It may be set to always clear your thumbnail cache by default.

I did have, but I've uninstalled that for the time being trying to find the culprit, but without any luck. The thing is, it was doing it pretty much from the off, but I've tried all different kinds of configurations since and still not sorted it.

I found a mention that it might be 'automatic maintenance', which I've now turned off, and I've turned off all kinds of processes as well, but no joy. It's happening a bit less frequently, but it's also happening at times other than start up. I'd say on average once a day, most likely at start up.

Some process is creating a folder in the cache folder called "ThumbCacheToDelete" where it takes the thumbnails out of the cache files and creates a load of .tmp files before they get deleted.

If I can find out what that process is, I might be able to fix it, I guess.
