    use windows 8 to boot ubuntu off a usb


    i need help with this...
    i have the ubuntu installed on my usb but windows isnt showing an option to boot from it??

    i am just wondering if someone may know if there is something i need to turn off or edit so that i can boot ubuntu off a usb

    Not clear to me what you mean.

    Boot device settings will be in bios/efi.

    Check your machine/motherboard manual how to get into setup.

    Or are you trying to add ubuntu to the windows boot menu?

    Also, depending on your mobo's age, you might be able to use the F11/F12 boot menu option when restarting to boot directly from a particular HDD, SSD or USB device. Works really well.

    i have a windows 8 laptop it came with windows 8 pre installed

    i have followed the instructions on the ubuntu website on how to install ubuntu onto my usb but i can't find how i get my laptop to boot the ubuntu instead of windows 8

    my laptop is a hp pavillion sleekbook
    could you specify what other specs you need me to post so i know what i need to find???
