I am having issues with my browsers, in Chrome, facebook doesn't load properly, and I cannot click on my emails from Hotmail, as well as a few other sites I am not able to click on links, and I keep getting this pop-up, not very frequent, but the same one, it pops up on internet-explorer aswell as chrome, same one everytime, any thoughts on how to fix this? also, I can't open my system restore, an error pops up, and lastly, it shows an "x" on my harddrive icon under "my computer" when I right-click it and click on properties, then scan for errors, it says there are errors, but no option underneath to fix the problems, just a 'close' button, any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your time.

restart your computer in safemode with networking,

scan for viruses

scan for disk errors

if problem persists, then download spybot search and destroy ver 1.62

when installing, de-select tea timer install ( its too bothersome, pops up everytime a registry entry is made/changed )

run spybot in safemode, when done fix selected items, then reboot..

Was everyting working ok while in safemode?

I don't know how to start windows 8 in safe mode, I have scanned my laptop with malwarebytes and Norton, also with Advancedsystemcare pro, still shows a disc error when I click on 'my computer' but doesn't seem to be intrerferring with my system performance :S I'm just having browser issues, pages won't load fully, I have to refresh the browser to load the entire page, and can't click on certain links such as my emails in Chrome, I have to open IE to check my email messages, I have scanned chrome in my malwarebytes, and scanned the entire harddrive, nothing shows up, any ideas? I can't restore or revert my laptop to a date before it started happening, won't let me system restore, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Open administrator command prompt & run:

It takes a long time to finish.Let it finish.

Then run: sfc /scannow

Post back with whether the 2 scans helped.

it says I need Elevated permissions to run dism :S and Spybot doesn't seem to help, however, spybot did find a few rootkits, but it also states that not all rootkits are malware, and that some software use it to hide registration data :S so I did not delete the rootkits yet till I have a better understanding. Any other ideas? I backed-up my data to my external hard drive incase I have to fresh install my windows 8 and start from scratch, would prefer not to do that but if I have to I will, so please help me :) thanks.

yeah I tried all of that and nothing seems to be working, spybot hasn't worked either, still having browser issues on Chrome and IE, some pages fail to load and some links are unclickable, and still am not able to do a system restore or revert to a previous save point or even create a restore point, any other ideas?

Looks like a virus... Malwarebytes and Spybot should have hammered them...

Start your system in safemode with networking and see if you can restore from there

Now run malwarebytes then spybot and fix the problems found

There have been times when I got disgusted enough to restore to factory settings.

That's drastic but sometimes needed.

Yeah I burnt a windows 8 iso just in case I have to factory it, which I really don't want to do. How do I start Windows 8 in safe mode? I've tried to before and I couldn't. I'm a very techy guy, I usually fix everything that happens with my laptop, but this one stumped me lol

ok I went in to safe mode and attempted to restore to an earlier start point, but its not showing system restore in properties, and when I clicked on system restore in recovery, this poped up saying "system restore does not appear to be functioning
correctly on this system.
a volume shadow copy service component encountered
an unexpected error. " this is very weird, I would prefer not to do a computer refresh, as that wipes out a lot of programs and drivers, I've done that before and do not like it, any other ideas?

is your windows activated?

are you seeing any activation watermarks on the lower right of the screen?

Can you bring your laptop to another computer to backup your data and run a virus scan?

Do you have an available partition at least 30GB in which to install another copy of Windows 8 on it?

If the data and programs are very important to you, do not refresh, buy another harddrive, clone your malfunctioning drive and install the clone in your computer if the clone behaves the same then attempt a refresh. If the end result is not what you want, you still have the original..

You said youve refreshed before, was it for the same behavior? It may be hardware related like your harddrive... Cloning the drive should eliminate the problem if it is your harddrive..

BTW is your system a desktop or laptop? do you have an external drive connected to it?

It is a genuine windows, paid for, I've never partitioned before, and I have an external hard drive, backed up most of my files, and as for the last refresh, it was for a different reason, and my system is a Toshiba laptop, and how do I clone my hard drive?

Best solution I can think of.

Copy over the user data you need to an external drive. Make a system image of the PC's drive as well.

Also, I wan to ask, is this a new Windows 8 PC or an install of Windows 8 on an older PC?
