Windows 8 Actually Sucks.

Hello,

I don't know why it's taken me so long to realise this, but windows 8 is rubbish. I bought this laptop with windows 8 already installed and so far pretty much everything I have wanted to has not worked efficiently like it would have in windows 7 or even XP. There aren't even any solutions to problems I have been experiencing, even after many months posting on various forums. The fault is not of the laptop itself (even so, it's too late to return it now). The laptop is good, its just this OS. So basically I need a way to revert back to windows 7 from this all mighty piece of rubbish. Is this possible? If it's not then that's bullshit.

Unfortunately, while we understand your frustration, posts like the above won't garner too much help from most people.

Based on your posts here, it seems most issues have been around networking?

Your downgrade rights will depend upon the OS installed. If you have Windows 8 PRO, then you have a downgrade path. If you are on standard Windows 8, you don't. You are expected to purchase another license.

Apologies for the anger, I've just been through a long string of failures trying to get things to work. I'm fairly certain I have windows 8 pro edition I know have 64. bit, is there any way of checking ?

Right click on Computer, properties. The Windows edition is listed right at the top. It will say "Windows 8" or "Windows 8 Pro".

Do you have a Windows 7 install disk? Download Hiren's Boot CD from the link in my sig - Boot from it and go into Mini XP.

Use that to move your personal files elsewhere on the disk, then delete your Windows and Users folders and also your Program files folder - You don't have to wipe the whole drive, unless you want to, but if that is the case, move your files to a USB drive.

Then install Windows 7 - It's as simple as that, it should be, unless your Windows 8 is connected to your BIOS and you cant get into the BIOS from an F key - If that is the case, you will have to tell it to allow access from an F key. Some of the others in here are more familiar with how to do that, I'm sorry I don't know how - Yet.

It took me several months to work out the kinks in W8 to get it to where I wanted it which was a Windows7 type interface with start button and menu with the tiles never to be seen. Why don't you describe your problems here and see if the people here can work you through the issues. Once it is set up right it does have some advantages over Windows 7.

Okay, for me the problems with windows 8 aren't the aesthetics or the layout. To be honest even though it's not favourable I've got used to the start menu and other changes in windows 8. The main problem I face with this OS is the fact I can no longer successfully share internet from my 3G dongle to play Xbox live, like I was able to with windows 7.

^ Yeah, you have stumbled onto a very specific problem that other people won't ever see.

Is there not a router or device that you could utilize to share out this connection rather than having to rely on ICS?

IMO your technology limitations highlight the root of your frustration.
There are many things that can be done to CUSTOMIZE and CONFIGURE your OS to fit YOUR PERSONAL needs.
Google is a great friend if you know what you are looking for.

Probably would have been better to start with that you can't do internet sharing with your Xbox with your 3G adapter.

A word of apology to the OP, first of all. But the original post is the living embodiment of why I almost had a mental breakdown working in IT support. People would call come to me all mad with a problem. Then they made me play scavenger hunt to figure out what their symptoms are. No, "it doesn't work" won't cut it. Can you imagine calling up your doctor and say "doc, there's something wrong with me, fix it. No, I will never ever tell you what my symptoms are. Start asking questions and I'll give you a yes or no answer."

Anyway, the solution to the OP's problem is virtual router plus. It's free and very self explanatory. Please post further questions here and I will be glad to answer them.

I am absolutely unable to share anything (Folders, files, printers) from Windows 7 TO Windows 8 with the "Computer Browser" service running. I don't recall if it is set to manual or automatic by default but it must be diasbled to share with a W7 computer. It is a shot in the dark but what the hey. Make sure the ICS service is running as suggested and disable the Computer Browser service and see if it works.

Okay, firstly thanks for the response from everybody.

Coke Robot: You can share a 3G dongle's internet to connect to Xbox live, as many people have been able to do so, and i have also when I had windows 7 and xp.

pparks1: I do know of some other ways to share the connection either virtual router plus or purchasing a router. I have considered purchasing a router, but I would first need to find the correct router which would be able to cater to my needs. I have also tried using virtual router plus, which can be used to share my dongles internet to wirelessly connect my Xbox up. What annoys me is that you could do this on windows 7 without using a program.

However,

goodintentions: I have tried using virtual router plus, and at first it seemed great and was working perfectly. But then i discovered i would have to purchase an additional version of virtual router to be able to share my dongles internet. If it was free it would be fine, but i don't want to purchase something that may not work correctly.

So does anyone have any other suggestions? or could anyone point me into the right direction to purchasing the correct router required for my needs ?

Linksys/Cisco or Dlink - You have more control over how to set IP addresses - Let me take a guess here in that you have a netgear router? toss it in the trash and get a real router.
