    Display Language problem

    Display Language problem

    hi
i just got a new win 8 home premium OEM English 64Bit desktop (G2020 H61 MSI).
it came with English Display language and Hebrew as second.
all was O.K. till i added Czech and Polish language packs.

the display language turned to Czech and the only way i can bring it back to English is by the "Over Ride" option in <LANGUAGE-Advanced Settings> where i have option for English UK instead of "use language list" (which gets me to Czech or Polish' but not Hebrew or English, no matter what order i put.)
(i prefer English US (no offense) because that is what we use here. plus, i don't want to get into trouble with this over ride because i don't speak Czech and Polish (my father does))

when i set it to one of the 2 new languages' i get an option in <English- options> or <Hebrew options>, to install a a language pack ("available"), but i tried this a few times , and both failed to install.

it seems clear that the "initial" language installation (Eng. / Heb.) can't "compete" with the full install (new) language packs, but i don't know why i can't install these Heb/Eng. language packs/

yes, i can try to uninstall Czech and Polish, and then see if i have the option to upgrade Eng./Heb., but it takes time (Slow) and may not work.
i did play with region and stuff, and my non-unicode is hebrew and loacl is israel

    thanks for ideas

Create a new user account for each language you want to use, for instance your main account (English), one account for Hebrew, one for Polish and one for Czech.

Now log in to each of these accounts and set respective display and input languages. This is the only correct way to work with several display languages, each language needed having its own user profile.

    thanks kari.

    sorry i was not clear.
i need only one display language and that is Eng. US.
the rest are just for input for my father who switch between them as he writes.

OK, so you mean input languages although you were talking about Display languages. A big difference.

For input languages you do not need any additional language packs, all Windows language versions include all possible input languages and keyboard layouts. You just need to enable those input methods you need to use.

    thanks kari.

    sounds good.
    i will try it.
so are you suggesting to un install polish and czech?

plus, it does seem like a bug because if i choose '' language list'' in display language, and put English first, it should have been English, no?

I cannot reproduce your issue, for me the languages work as they should. Might be so simple as a misunderstood or forgotten setting.

Yes, you do not need Czech and Polish language packs if you simply want occasionally use Czech or Polish keyboard layout to type in those languages using your English Windows 8.

    thanks kari.
i will do as you suggested as soon as i visit my father, and post the results.

i just ran (a remote-team viewer) AidA64 check and found out that the installer language was English UK and not US, mabe
that is why it was the ''over ride'' option.

(once i un install czech and polish, i hope i will be able to download the English us full language pack, because i want
'David' TTS voice, which is US )

    hi
it has been a while, since my dad was out of station.
i tried many times to uninstall czech and polish, and install us English, (which i do have as an "option", but all these always end up with a failure massage.
i understand now (thanks to Kari) that i should not have installed Czech and Polish, because i only needed them as input languages, but now i am stuck without US English ' so no David as a TTS voice.
is there a way to install US English "manually" (not through the normal UI) ?
or any idea why all this failings ?

    thanks
