"Computer" folder isn't showing partitions other than C:

I've got a laptop with two NTFS partitions on it; one for Win8, and another for storage of random things. Both are NTFS-formatted, and they're on a basic disk.

The problem is: When I open the "Computer" window, it only shows me the C: drive that I'm running Windows from. Other things are there... the DVD-RW, network folders, other computers on the net, etc. But the H:\ drive (the other NTFS partition I use for random storage) isn't there. HOWEVER..... if I go up to the address bar and type in "H:" and hit <Enter>, it takes me to that drive, and the H: drive suddenly appears in the folder-pane on the left of the window.

It does the same thing for any USB drives I plug in. I can type their drive letters into the address bar, and then it'll take me to that drive and it's icon will show up in the left-hand folder pane. But then, when I navigate away from that drive, it disappears again.

It's like Windows is hiding them from me unless I know the address, kinda like how putting "$" at the end of a shared folder name does it with network shares.

    Anybody have any ideas?

NO, but you could go into disk management and see if that partition is allocated.

The partition is allocated. It has a drive letter. I can access that drive by directly typing its letter into any address bar. If I type any path using any of the non-C: hard drives, then they show up in the folder pane on the left. So, Windows knows how to find them. It just doesn't think to show them to me unless I'm using them.

I guess, deleting the partition and recreate is not an option.

I don't think this is your problem but I'll mention it anyway. Under the View tab in Folder Options there is a "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder". You may want to make sure that option is not checked. If it is, it could be compounding your issue.

EDIT: > A screen shot of your expanded disk management screen may help sort this out.

Well, I don't know what I did, but the problem seems to have remedied itself. I think it happened when I moved some partitions around with Acronis Disk Director. I'm not sure what I changed, but I think I may have had a linux partition between then Win8 partition and the other partition which wasn't showing up. After I deleted that linux partition (there are still other linux partitions on the drive, just not between the two NTFS ones), I think the partition started showing up. I can't be sure, because I had given up checking to see if the problem had been fixed and I just noticed it, yesterday.
