Hi, Windows 8 x64/86 iso file separation

Hi, I would like to Clean Install another machine of mine. I recently download another .Iso file of Windows 8 x64/x86, I can't probably boot it. Because, I only got 4 gigabytes of USB. So, my question is.. How can I separate the x64 and x86. So I can boot it today. Thanks! :3

I haven't seen an ISO image of any windows OS that had both x86 and x64 bundled together. I have every windows OS ever released and they have always been in separate disk or in separate ISO files. Unless you have some kind of disk that offers both upon booting you probably have either one or the other. If ou believe you have the x86 version you will need to simply download the x64 version.

You will need an iso handler.

Inside the iso is a folder called sources.

Extract install.wim from the sources folder.

It will contain several images - yours may have 4 or more.

(use gimagex for exporting GImageX - AutoItScript )

You can export all the x64 images into another wim. Call it eg installx64.wim

Then export all the x86 images into yet another. Calli it e.g. installx86.wim

You then pick up the iso with gburner and replace the very large sources\install.wim , with the installx64.wim you just made.

NOTE - you MUST then rename the Installx64.wim you just added to the iso as install.wim.

Then click the Save As and call it anything you like, e.g win8x64.iso

Make the win8x86.iso the same way , using installx86.wim , renamed to install.wim

Both of those should be small enough, put the contents of one on usb using your preferred method.

Most of my install disks are less that 4 Gig. I've seen disks that have all versions inside, they are bigger. But the stock ones are less than 4 gig. If any Windows OS install disk is larger than regular DVD size, it has been modded. I modded my own XP Media Centre disk to hold extra drivers, but it is still less than 4 gig.
