Hey
I just replaced my not working motherboard and power supply card with new ones. Now the windows seems to boot but just when the start screen is about to show up, the screen go black. I know it's up because when i slide my finger in the biological sensot it would make the sound of a successful login.
If you guys have any suggestions except repairing or reinstalling the OS, i'd happy to hear that.
Thanks in advance

It's probably an Activation Problem. If it's a new Motherboard, it's new Hardware, even if it is the exact motherboard you replaced.

If you can pull up Task Manager from the black screen (If you have a mouse but nothing else) - Then you can stick your install disk into the Optical Drive and run Setup.exe- This will fix any activation problems. Run an In-Place Install which means just choose "Upgrade" from the choice of either upgrade or fresh install. I've had to do this twice.

OK,
after re-installing the "bios software" from dell website (did it using an external screen, which, in a very weird way, worked) the laptop's screen is working perfectly. Now, should I re-install the whole package of drivers, or just keep using it this way?

If it works, ya don't have to - I like to keep all of the newest drivers, I never use Beta drivers. So get em if ya want em. So it looks like the old motherboard had an updated BIOS, but the replacement did not - once you upped the BIOS to that version, your activation became valid. Sounds like thats what happened.

Rereading your response, I think your Video Driver was bad. You say you used an external monitor? If you have nVidia hardware, do not get the 3.20 update - It's a bad Beta.
