Yes the image should be 1 or 2 files, however, there may be a safeguard in the backup that wants to write to a dedicated source such as a small partition or a folder, something separate from your normal files to prevent accidental erasure..

Ah, I see. Okay, I will try to create a partition on the 3TB Seagate and image to that.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Well, the Windows PE version of the Macrium Reflect 5.1.5870 rescue disc created from the free version imaged all of my drives with no issues at all! I verified the image in Macrium, and everything came out great. It wrote a nice single file in a folder on my external drive. I have not yet tried to rewrite the image to the D: and boot from it, but I'll give it a whirl tomorrow. I have a good feeling about this one. Nothing seemed fishy at all.

    I will report back.

    Thanks everyone.

Reporting Back: My hard drive failed a few days ago, and I had nothing to rely on except the untested image created with the Macrium Windows PE Rescue Disk. Long story short, I wrote the image back to my first HDD (which has been replaced) and IT WORKED! Everything was absolutely perfect! The ONLY settings I had to go in and change were Intel Rapid Storage and Start (they were looking to accelerate the original HDD which was no longer there). A few clicks and everything was back to normal!

Hopefully this is the last battle in the Great War of Inspiron.

Ok so to recap, this was your issue:

I bought a new Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 a few weeks ago for work/school. This was my first Windows 8 machine, and I was excited to get everything up and running. One of the first things I like to do after I get all of my programs installed is a system image. I navigated to the Windows 7 File Recovery to start my system image. I began the image, and everything seemed to be going smoothly.

An hour later, I came back to see how it was doing. I was greeted with a "Failed Backup - Not enough storage" message, error code 0x81000033.

so here we are with a bad Harddrive, luckily you made your backup in time... Heres a perfect example of backup backup backup!

Hope all is well now with your new HDD...

Yep! Yes, I'm so happy that I had an image to fall back on... I've never been as paranoid about losing everything as I am now, and feel completely exposed without an image set aside.

So far, so good with the new HDD! Thank you for all of your help, Brooklyn.
