Keyboard configuration

Hi all,
Ok I'll preface this by saying I am actually a mac guy (shock horror) but my mum has just bought an Acer Aspire V5, and so I am setting it up for her. I've jumped through most of the hoops I've had to in order to get her machine running and protected so thankfully now its just on to configuration so she is comfortable using it.

The thing that is really driving me nuts is the keyboard and certain buttons not working the way they traditionally do. The most annoying being the two shift buttons, for some inexplicable reason the one on the left acts as a sort of short cut to support. It has zero use as an actual shift key, and the right one works more as a caps lock rather than shift. Occasionally it does work as a normal shift key but mostly it's another caps lock.

I have tried going into keyboard settings and language settings to customise it but nothing seems to come up that is what i'm looking for.

For what it's worth her computer is one of the touch screen laptops.

Thanks in advance.
