Solved what to do do do !!!!

i have recently got a new laptop windows 8 , when i purchased it the shop asked me if i wanted them to set it up for me , so i let them do it of course with a charge why is this ive never had to do it with other versions of windows, im not liking this version but i had some good help previous on here with using classic shell , i also would like to know please can i alter that menu that keeps jumping onto my page from the right hand side it is annoying and the time and date keeps jumping in from the left hand side any help is always appreciated

Is the menu highlighted in red what you are referring to?

If so these are called charms, they will pop up whenever you move your mouse to the extreme top or bottom right pane.

These are options available for you on your current screen. This is how you make changes such as settings of the particular app you are running as well as general system settings.



To disable them you need to edit your regisrty... Someone already made a registry file for it so you dont have to go through the risky process of editing the registry.. If it really bothers you and you feel you cant avoid those corners heres the link..

to download these files you must right click them and save link as...

Ive tested these, and they dont necessarily disable them, but what it did was to lower the activation area.

Instead of activating at the extreme edges instantly, it makes it so that if you want them, you have to start at the edges and come down about a quarter of the screen to then activate them. This should eliminate accidental activations.

These are reg files, ive examined them personally and deem them safe, there are no extra instructions in them except to the charms settings..

These files should be downloaded and renamed to .reg (remove the _.txt) then double click to activate and select yes to the windows prompts..

Keep a copy in case you wish to restore to original settings, perhaps in your documents folder..

If you are stuck with windows 8, classic shell is worth installing.

It has an option to disable hot corners which helps to reduce the weirdness.

Just think you are drunk on windows 7 and it will be easier to deal with

This is a lot better way of setting up Windows 8 I find.

To save ink & paper you may want to try this step before printing out from these forums

Above your 1st post click on Thread Tools & Show Printable Version
Then hold Ctrl button while you press the P key once
