at random times when I try to type in any box/ my computer

at random times when I try to type in any (login/search engine etc) box/ my computer brings up windows re: run/computer/settings etc - seemingly related to the first letter I type- very annoying and I have to restart my computer to fix the problem - any suggestions?

also, why do I have to re-sign in when my computer wakes from sleep or hibernation? I want to stay logged in until I shut down

Looks like your (ALT) key is sticky .

Slap it many times rapidly to clear out whatever is interfering with it..

As for the password thing, thats usually changed in your power plan settings..

Are you using a laptop or desktop?
