I had problems with my activation of WIN8 coz it was embeded in my new laptop and was nowhere to find physical in the manual or on the laptop itself so i used SIW 2 to change my wallpaper when the time limit for activation ran out. Then i found out that i could use a third party software to get my serial key and now i have activated my legal copy of WIN8 (very strange way of dealing with activation issues, forcing me to use a third party software to retrive my OWN legal serial?!?!?) and now i want to change backgrond/wallpaper in the win8 settings but when i do the picture i choose in SIW2 still overlays everything.

So my question is how do i remove/uninstall the SIW2 wallpaper?? Now that i got my win8 legaly activated i want to use the settings in the original OS and not the SIW2 tool.

Pls help me and sorry if my english isent the best, its not my first language :)

Hello Golthrim, and welcome to Eight Forums.

OEM PCs that come with Windows 8 preinstalled, your product key will always remain embedded in the BIOS/UEFI firmware chip, and will automatically be entered when you install Windows 8.

You should be able to uninstall SIW2, and change your desktop background as usual.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Sad to say no help in my case, first of all ,yes i know my serial is embeded in my bios and yes, they where entered automatically when installed, my issue was that i ALSO needed that serial a SECOND time when i was tryin to activate same installation to be able to change wallpaper and so on and then i had to use a third party software to find out what serial i had coz there was no documentation in my manual, but nvm that, my problem is that i CANT "uninstall" SIW2 coz it was never installed to begin with, it was just a zipfile downloaded and extracted in my download folder and then run as Administrator by rightclicking on it.
So it dosent show up in the Add/remove program list and there is no tools in the SIW2.exe except: BROWSE, APPLY and EXIT.
So my question is still: how do i remove the picture once choosen with SIW2? Coz as it is now that picture still overlays all changes i try to do in the win8 own settings :/ Oh and btw i forgot to thank u for the quick reply :)

When i change Theme i get either a pixelated background where it looks like the SIW2 picture and the win8 theme colide and it looks really bugged....strange and i cant save my changes either , every time i save a change and close settings menu and then reopen it the settings are unsave and some times the little box where u check for saving ur settings is greyed out, its really bizzare that a picture uploaded with the SIW2 software can totaly over ride any changes i try to do in win8:s setting.
The sad thing is that i downloaded the software from this site and followed the instructions exactly and now its impossible to remove it, here is where i downloaded the software : http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/1727-aero-problem-2.html#post11528

Now i cant even change background with the SIW2 software anymore, everytime i change and save and log out its the first picure that i choose and wants to get rid of is back again, even after i save another picture , the first picture i used with the SIW2 software have some how rooted itself in the coresystem and will not be changed, neither with theme changes nor any other way that i can figure out so now im stuck with a wallpaper that i cant ever change, i guess that if u know some windows system programming its possible to remove it but im not that smart

You could do a system restore using a restore point dated before you used this to undo it.

Welp! It Takes a Guy named SIW2 to fix a SIW2 problem. Try what he suggests, it's worked for me for other stuff

Golthrim - Is this software some kind of bootscreen customiser? Because I was using one of those Boot Screen changers to make an LCARS bootscreen, which worked, but after a month it corrupted my whole system so it was dong stuff like what you are saying is happening. Try what SIW2 says, cos I wanna see if you are able to change it at all.

Golthrim,

You may need to use step 3 in Option Three of the tutorial below to take ownership of the key first. Afterwards, you should be able to set permissions for it.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...le-folder-drive-registry-key-windows-8-a.html

YES!!! After taking ownership of the key using step 3 in Option 3 in the tutorial u gave me i could then use the Regedit change that SIW2 showed me and now i can change my background as i please again and it stays saved even after i log off and back , thanks a LOT! I hope this thread can help others as well :)
