    coincidence or not

I've had this problem for some time now, where my keyboard driver would install/load before the OS would boot up and my keyboard would be lit up with the blue led and pushing the delete key while lit up blue would not let me into the BIOS. So I had to move the keyboard usb cable to a different usb port and in doing so this would allow me to access my BIOS because the keyboard would be lit up with the white led. So for what ever reason I decided to turn off the the smart drive in the BIOS which allows a 3rd party software to view/read the smart drive report. By default is disabled but I turned it on to use with speed fan and never did anything with it. Since then my keyboard acts normally when starting or rebooting the system. Which is, it will light up white then hitting the delete key while it's white will allow me access to the BIOS. So is this coincidence or not...I don't know....but I'm one happy camper!

Does anybody have any idea, suggestion or input as to what the heck could have caused all that?

Not sure but on another KB weirdness on boot...

A friends computer would not allow me to do anything while booting ( most of the time ). But worked fine after windows load.

Moved KB around to different ports, even installed another USB x 4 card in it, no dice...

It worked when her external 2.5" backup drive was disconnected but not otherwise, finally found a place where I could plug the KB in while leaving her ext drive connected..

The KB only behaves when it is connected to the same usb bus as the ext HDD.. the front ones in the case..

Was it lonely?? I dont know.. It works and thats all that matters.... Shes happy..

You know...I've never tried it on the front usb ports, only on the back ones and there's 10 to choose from back there. Like you, it's working and couldn't be happier.

I read somewhere it could be an irq conflict that windows resolves when started but clashes with the bios..
We could just get another keyboard.. But this solution is working..

Sometimes certain USB keyboards are just not friendly to certain motherboards or makes of Boxes, it's why I avoid spending money on the expensive Key/Mouse USB kombos, I just get the 5 dollar cheepies outta the used bin. But I know, ya bought that Logitec LCD Keyboard, ya gotta see what it does.

What make of USB kb is doing this? Also, and it does happen, that the USB ports them selves go bad, the connection inside, sometimes you can replace em by getting the external USB ports that slide into your empty slots.

Sounds like it was solution "b" - Use a different set of USB ports, the ones on the front may not be as used as the back ones. USB ports DO go bad, all of my fronts ports are bad, and a couple of my back ones - I use a Dlink USB Hub, it's nice and tight, it will be some time before I wreck the ports in that thing.
