Help! Computer Freezing On Windows 8

    HI,

I have a problem with Windows 8 in that it shall Freeze up without warning. I can get a freeze 1 a day sometimes 1 every 2-3 days but i never know to when or why. I have a Acer 5750g aspire laptop 15 core 8gb ram which came with Windows 7 pre-installed. Have had no problems with Windows 7 but ever since i upgraded to Windows cp and now Windows Pro have had this freezing problem. It is so annoying that it always seems to happen when your in the middle of some work or downloading and you lose your work because i am forced to turn of my computer and reboot again!

Do any other Windows 8 users have this problem?

I have tried many things to try and stop this, My drivers are up to date but yet i can still get a freeze.
I also have Tune Up Utilities 2013 Mcafee installed so i should not really get any problems.

One thing i have been told to do is goto the msconfig and disable my services under services (by also ticking hide all Microsoft Services) except for Mcafee, This i think has helped and is a lot better but i have had a freeze since but maybe this was because i installed a new program and it showed up under services and i had to untick this.

I shall be greatfull for any help or suggestions
    Thank You
    Andrew

My 2 cents would be to run any live OS and see if it freezes, if it does then its hardware based, if it doesn't, then it is software related and I would do a FRESH install from a RELIABLE source .
With your hardware you should be flying through without compromising anything !!!

Personally I see there is really no need for tuneup utilities or any additional security suite besides using Windows Defender on W8.

Yes, don't use Mcafee or Norton, they are both huge programs that replace already-adequate protection systems within Windows 8, like the Firewall and Defender. I used to use Eset NOD32, but Defender finds the same things lately. nI had a helluva time telling Defender to run after removing NOd32.

The best tool you can use is Hiren's Boot disk, there is a Mini XP on it - I guarantee you, if it does not boot, then you have hardware issues. There is also a Linux on the disk as well. While you are using it, you can run external CHKDSK and see if your drive has developed problems, 8 out of 10 problems like yours I have found to be read element failure. Because windows 8, when everything is running smooth simply does not freeze. If it does, the first thing to check is your hard drive, then if that is OK move on to your hardware. Hiren's has several System Burn-In testers that can put stress on all of your hardware and from there you can find out which one is failing.

Here is a link to Download Hiren's Boot CD, the latest - It's an archive. Just unzip it and burn the disk which is inside.

    Download Hiren

Ty Apon i am going to try your suggestion and make a boot cd and test it. i think i am fine with Mcafee though because i had the freezing issue before i installed Mcafee. I have also tried Zorin and Ubuntu Linux distributions and both run fine without any freezing and i installed those onto my hard disc as a dual boot to windows. Windows 7 has been fine it's just this upgrade i downloaded from Microsoft Win 8 Pro that i get the freezing from i also got this on both preview editions too.

i was also told to put my Power Options onto High Performance instead of Balanced power which is the recommended one to use. Am trying this now and was told Balanced and Power saver have bugs in them? Is this true?

I dont see hwo that would be of any use! Who said this, an MS "Tech?" - If it works, then maybe it will help, but it is not a fix.

I just had my system lock up solid, but I was running about 50 programs. How many pogroms you have running before you get a lockup? It may be the processor can't handle so many data streams.

Well, if you have old drivers, not made for 8 - Some Windows 7 drivers work, sometimes they do not. Beta drivers can cause Problems, like with nVidia's new 3.22 driver.

Are your Sound Drivers sending to HDMI? Because I noticed this: My Board has Realtek audio, but my sound is transferred through HDMI and uses the nVidia HDMI driver for that. I'd check to see, which Audio device is actually active.

Did you do a clean install when you upgraded or upgrade over the Win7 ? Are you running a dual boot with Win7 ?

Many users have chose to backup files and do a clean install to prevent issues.
