hi, i've seen lots of posts regarding ntoskrnl and bsod, but i'm experiencing something a little different. a few times per day, my computer locks up (no bsod) and the task manager shows that "system" (ntoskrnl) is using up 100% of disk use. this goes on for 20-30 minutes and then just releases the disk usage. any clue on how to fix this? thanks.

It's one of the programs that is starting with Windows, it latches on the the kernel. You will have to shut off all of your startup programs and go through them one by one until you identify which one is causing it. I found this one case, where it was being caused by something called "HP OVO"

There is also a post in there about how to do a selective startup.

Windows 2008 64bit Server at 100% CPU.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
i shut off all of my start up programs and left them off. and it's still doing it. it's locking up 100% of the disk. i've got acrobat reader, google chrome, excel, outlook 2007, and aci (appraisal software) running and it's still happening. i have no other programs running (at least that i can see). while it was locking up the hard drive, i manged to force close all of my running programs and it's still using up all the disk, even with all my other programs closed. i'm open to suggestions.
