Windows 8 does not start

Hi folks, I tried to make partitions on my hard disk and then tried to reboot the system, but it fails to reboot, error 0xc0000225(winloader) on blue screen. BIOS sees the harddisk. I can also load the recovery program (hp), but it provides me only 1 option - to make system recovery to factory settings and losing all I have on my hard disk. Can it be somehow possible to recover win 8 and start it without factory settings recovery and losing files?

Hi Detunizer, welcom to the Eight Forums.

Could you please tell us exactly what did you do for your partitions and which program you used? Did you shrink a partition with Disk Manager or merge two partitions with Partition Manager or what? Which partitions you deleted / merged / changed size?

Kari

hi Kari, I used Acronis Disk Director, wanted to separate data files (libraries etc.) from system files and programs by taking them out from C:\. Apparently I also merged the 'reserved by system' section with C:\. application prompted to restart, and that is it.:(

it might be the reset does not work as expected when the partitions are screwed.

you can still recover some or most of your files with data recovery programs, some are free and work well..
But you will need to use another computer to save them, you need to connect the drive you want to save to another computer in order to copy from it. Is this something you want to do or are you just calling it quits?

seems this is the only way. it simply does not react to any controls. there is only command prompt available which has x:\windows\rm>....

Acronis has always been questionable for me... For me it has only ever worked for moving one drive to another and copying the entire structure.

You may be able to fix that, by Using partition wizard home edition - You will need a bootable disk of it, if you can find a bootable copy, Boot using that disk, then in the program, select the DRIVE, not the partition, and hit "Rebuild MBR"

Then you will have to find a Windows 8 install disk which is the same version you have, it must be the exact same version or it will not work - Boot from the Install disk and run the Automatic Repair - Which will rebuild that System Reserved area. I had thought Windows 8 does not depend on those, but in your case it does. Both of my Windows 8 installs have no reserved areas any longer, both of the same systems with Windows 7, did have revered areas.
