Show desktop icon when working on old desktop

I don't know what to call the old desktop since the tile version is called Metro. But when working on the old desktop version and you want to clear everything off the screen and just view the desktop, where is the button for this?

XP had this button, but cant find it on W8.

If you right click on the desktop you will see a selection box. Select the "view" option. You should now see a check box for "Show desktop icons" and also some of the other familiar options like XP has including alignment and sizes of desktop icons. Hope this answers your question. Also I think most users call the initial screen "Start" and the desktop is still known as just that.

    Hello Brking,

I believe you are referring to the Show Desktop button on the far right of the taskbar.

If so, the tutorial below can help show you more on how to use it. It's the same in Windows 8 except that you don't see the "Show Desktop" button until you actually click on it (the area just to the right of the clock).

    Thanks.

Ugh...yeah I just clicked that empty space (on XP it used to be a square) and it brought up the desktop. WHY is MS so insistent on hiding tools in W8???

Right. You said people refer to the Metro screen as "Start", right? Maybe I misunderstood. Either way, its confusing.

I thought he was talking about hiding icons too. He was talking about the 'Show Desktop' button. Which is understandable coming str8 from xp with no vista or 7.

Doesn't really need a button or magical corner to see desktop , just right click the taskbar &Click image for larger version appears
