    Recycle Bin crashes system

I had deleted some items and decided to restore them.

When I open the recycle bin, I can see the files for about 2 seconds and then it seems the system crashes and refreshes/restarts. As soon as it opens, the little blue circle is there spinning.

I tried pinning a Recycle Bin tile to the tile screen and it does the same thing, whether I am in desktop mode or tile screen.

I have tried clicking on "restore all files" quickly when the Recycle Bin is open, but nothing is operable.

I have rebooted, I have checked for updates, and cannot fix it as of yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello MyJezzy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You might see if using the tutorial below to reset the Recycle Bin may be able to help.

    Thanks

Do you know if that will make me lose the items that are in the bin? I want to restore them.

EDIT - I am using Windows 8. Those instructions are for 7 and Vista.

It's the same procedure for Windows 8 as well.

Yes, unfortunately it will delete the files by resetting the Recycle Bin.

Before doing this, you might see if you may be able to use the free program Recuva to try and recover the files with.

Thanks. I ran Recuva, and ticked the box for Recycle Bin as the location of files to be recovered, but it tells me there are no files found. I can see them in the Recycle Bin though, during the few seconds that it does open. Am I doing something wrong?

Are you telling Recuva to look in the actual recycle bin folder? If so, the things you want to restore will not have the original filenames. You have to do Deep Scan too. If it does not show anything there, it is possible that the recycle bin is actually empty.

Yes, when it asks the file location, I tick off Recycle Bin. I did not choose a specific file name to search for - I just ticked off "pictures."

tell it to search "Other" click "Show All Files" and always use Deep Scan. If you tell it "pictures" it will look for only those, and it may not be seeing them due to the way recycle bin stores files.

Won't it bring up a million items then? How will I be able to find the ones I am looking for?

You'll be able to do a search in the scan results for file types or names.
