Windows partition not detected

Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Here's the scenario...

PC crashed, I get Toshiba splash screen at start up then nothing. With recovery stick I can get tools but cannot use them... I get either missing partition or hard drive locked message. I can get to command prompt though where it appears that the partition containing Windows is not being recognized at all...the size of the partition is not even showing up. This all started when I returned to my PC to find it unresponsive and had to power it off with the power button. PC was working fine for months after upgrading from Windows 7.

Thank you

May have damaged the partition, my default fix for this is to use GWscan or similar tool to check for read element failure. I've seen drives show up, apparently empty, but the data is still there, a full media scan usually fixes this.

If you can get to a Command prompt with your recovery stick, you can try to run "fixmbr" and then "fixboot" - But dont try it until you have scanned the full media surface with GWscan or Western Digital WDDIAG. Seagate has their own tool, but you can use GWsan on seagate drives.

Every major failure I have had which resulted in a crash has been fixed by repairing the drive using one of these tools, the Windows 8 Auto Repair is insufficient to repair some of these errors. I always do this when I have a full lockup, a blue screen "Windows Failure" or any other error which resulted in the system having to be shut off ungracefully.
