That's strange considering I just bought it brand new, sealed and everything. Why do you think it lists stuff from those dates? I haven't had a chance to even turn on that laptop today but hopefully I'll be able to tonight.

Sealed? It may have been a return. Did you buy it from Frys by any chance>? 90 percent of all Frys stock is returned products. You can tell by the Huge White Label on it. The reseal it too. They don't care if it was bad, they'll just pack it back up and sell it again. this is why I never ever buy anything from them ever, its newegg for me, tigerdirect, or I go to a local place.

I got it from TigerDirect. According to the event viewer 8/1 is when windows\logs was created so maybe install date? I'm running CHKDSK right now, and I still couldn't get it to boot from the CD, its ESC key for this laptop supposedly yet only boot options are bios or the HDD. Probably have to make some changes to the bios. Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it.

EDIT. DHCP error is just my stupid access point.

Well, now this is wholly odd then, maybe those dates reflect when the machine was made, but there should have been NO errors. I'd send it back, print up that error log, ask for a new machine. That's just too bizarre, I have an eTower here with Vista on it, and the event logs go all the way to the beginning, there are no errors in there at all, reflecting that DHCP error.

At any point, did you have the date set up wrong? That may explain those backdated errors. You have to set the boot sequence in the BIOS, set it up so it boots from Optical Disk FIRST. It should be F2 or something to get into the BIOS, or, it will say on the splash screen.

The errors seem to be from them being unable to access the windows update service, and the printer driver errors I was having was because I was trying to install a printer driver, which wasn't working because it was missing an update from the windows update service. I was finally able to boot from the CD and checked the hard drive, there were no errors. I have been monitoring the event viewer since yesterday and the only warnings I'm getting is a DHCP warning, which is due to my access point (terrible access point but no other choice of ISP).

If you have any more suggestion for any other tests I can run I would appreciate it but thanks for all the help you given me. Also for showing me that boot CD, its so useful!
