What is the fix?

I just downloaded Windows 8 Classic Start. It is a bit better but, I am really looking to make 8 as much like XP as possible. I would like the tiles gone and the icon filled desktop back. I know that I can put icons on the 8 desktop but the tiles and the Charms are a pain.

Are there any downloads that can do this?

Yes, it is a pain.

As far as I know, what you can do is somewhat limited.

You could disable the hot corners with classic shell (under settings).

You can get rid of the pointless "apps", just uninstall them all from the start screen thing, except the desktop.

Then stop them from loading up with:

After reboot, you can rt click the c:\program files\windowsapps folder, select Take ownership, then delete the folder. ( You will probably need to show hidden and protected os files - under the View tab in folder options )

Can you install Stardocks's Start8? That'll give you some kind of "orb" and a Start Menu
