Build 9369 - Start screen MORE USEABLE now

    Hi there
One thing I'm finding GREAT on the latest build (x-64 build 9369) is the little button at the bottom of the START screen.

Forget the stupid metro tiles etc -- just click the button and it lists ALL the apps and then you can optionally have these sorted by Install date or Most used.

This in some situations obviates any need for going directly to the desktop -- you can just click on your desired application and run it. - This would suggest to me that the Desktop as a separate application is destined for the Bin sooner rather than later.

I would perhaps like a little more selections in the APP sort screen but if you don't have gazillions of apps it's actually quite useable.

Here's what I mean -- two screenshots enc.

And of course the search window is open if you want to type a specific thing -- say W* for example if you can't quickly see Ms Word for example.

If Ms keep on a bit with this it *might* just possibly morph into something quite useable.

    Cheers

A right click offers a customisation button, bottom right, . You can then move the icons around into groups, or to your taste.

    Hi there
Not sure I'd bother with Media Centre -- I have other apps that I use for TV (usually use Internet streaming) or movies.

BTW the new File explorer really is a POS for non touch users (fortunately the old version still exists too).
See my thread with the title below in this Forum.

    Hi there
    NO --Read the post.

    1) System Boots into the start screen

    2) now 99% of W8 users wanting to start work would probably click on the desktop APP

    3) then they'd probably click on an app either on their task bar, custom tool bar or Desktop short cut.

    New Start screen

    1) Boot to start screen (as normal for W8 without any 3rd party apps)
    2) click the button at the bottom of the screen
    3) click on the app you want to start -- no need to go to the desktop initially.

    Cheers

Then what's the point of the Start Screen?

The way I have it, it's more like:

    1. Boot to Start
    2. Mouse over to open Outlook
    3. Swipe open Start
    4. Open Music Info
    5. Swipe back to Start and open Computer

Either way, through Start or the All Apps link, you get to the Desktop. Two routes to the same destination.

like davehc said, what you're asking is only a right-click away.

as for media center, if you have TV tuner cards, WMC is the best option.

I prefer my way. Boot straight to desktop in windows 8.
    Click icon for Outlook
    Click icon for Media Monkey
    Click icon File Explorer.

No swiping, no flipping back and forth. 3 mouse clicks, BOOM. Done.
