You can create a storage pool with a single drive...you just won't be able to use any of the resiliency functionality, but can expand it later.

So I'm better off getting a new ssd instead.
If they were not so expensive, oh well.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't say that. I would get an SSD for the OS and 2 mechanical standard drives for data. This way you could at least duplicate some of your data to protect against drive failure.

Why would you want to use the storage space for one drive? My current set up uses a ssd with windows and a few select programs installed on it and a 1 tb mechanical drive where all other programs as well as my user account is kept. That includes my libraries, downloads, Outlook pst files and all the other junk that collects in the user directory.

Right now OS with the latest updates and the nvidia driver added up to 56GB, I was hoping to use the HDD I have with the ssd using storage space.

something is wrong if the os and just the video driver use that much space. My 60gb ssd with office 2010 and a few other things used 31gb.

I don't know, and I made fresh install. After formatting the ssd it showed 55GB free space, I used the drive before as cache using Intel's rst.

Does it matter if the OS is pro or not?

I use Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. Some things that can use up space are the hibernation file, the page file, unneeded update files, temp files and so on.

Even still, on a fresh install you should only be using around 20 gb or so just for windows even after updating. If you are up to it, I would maybe give it another go, this time following this guide for moving your user files to the hdd. User Profile - Change Default Location - Windows 7 Help Forums

Scroll down and try option two. This option does have some initial requirements though, first when you install choose a user name other than what you normally use for a temp user account. Once windows is installed, modify the registry as directed and then create a new user using your normal user name. You will have to log out of the temp user account into the new one, then delete the temp one and after that all your user files will be stored on the hdd. As for programs, just change the drive location when you install them if you want them on the ssd or hdd.

With two drives now you can work on the other issues. Search this board for instructions on killing the hibernation file which can get rather large, usually around the amount of ram you have installed. Same for moving the page file off the ssd onto the hdd. One last thing, the actual video driver isn't that large, I'm thinking you are referring to the overly large control panel program that comes along with most drivers, see if that can't be moved to a slower drive to save space.
