Has anyone tried to run gigabyte ez smart response on Windows 8? Or Intel rapid storage technology for that matter?

I have a Z68 motherboard from gigabyte.
If it worked on Z77 then it should work on Z68
But when I went to download the software from gigabyte and chose the OS windows 8 64bit, I didn't find the ez smart response.

I don't have the EZ Smart response. I just checked it out and its ONLY for Z68 motherboards.

Check to see if they list it for Win 7. That will work on Win 8.

It looks like the ez utility to which you refer is to set up the Intel Smart Response Technology on that system.

GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response

But basically, its purpose is to allow a small SSD (or mSATA) to be used as a prefetch cache for a larger HDD. The system SATA controller has to be set to RAID for it to work.

If you have downloaded and installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) drivers and set the SATA controllers to RAID, then you would open the RST utility and look for an accelerate button. In that dialog you can set up the array using the SSD.

I don't think there is another setting in the bios except for the RAID option, but you might check.

And fireberd, you do have the utility, but it is included with the EZ Setup download in the utilities section.

Edit: Changing the SATA controller from AHCI to RAID will cause Windows 8 to go into its recovery mode. There is a procedure to bypass that if you need it.

Successfully restored the OS and downloaded ez smart response from gigabyte the app installed but can't run as the system is not supported, that's from message the app gave me, so I uninstalled it.

How much space does windows 8 pro takes from your drive?
Mine took 56GB after installing the updates and the graphics drivers.

I don't need it. I have SSD drives for my primary drive, not a cache. I have AHCI set in the BIOS.

Audio

I have a Gigabyte GAZ77X UD5H motherboard. I have the Intel Rapid storage installed, along with other Gigabyte supplied drivers for both the Intel and Atheros Ethernet NIC's, Realtek, etc.
No problems on Win 8 (or Win 7 as I have a dual boot system).

However, I did not install any of the Gigabyte installed applications, such as EasyTune 6 as that causes DPC Latency spikes and it also caused audio click and dropouts as I use the system for my recording studio PC.

Fireberd, you may have inadvertently helped me. I've had audio issues and ended up buying a USB headset to try and get it to work but it's doing the same thing. Do you thing the DPC latency would affect any sound card on this board?

I already installed EasyTune will uninstalling it bring me back to baseline?

And just so this isn't a complete thread hijack. I installed the Intel Rapid Storage on my Window 8 for caching using my mSATA drive after the OS was already installed with the IDE setting. There was a registry entry I had to flip to get it too boot with RAID settings. That's what Easy Setup does for you and it's a different entry in windows 7 which is why the win7 doesn't work for you.

The new version GIGABYTE - Support & Downloads - Utility - Motherboard claims windows 8 support now though, I suggest you use it.
