Start Screen went blank after Sleep - Can't add icons

    i wonder if restore of the start screen with bring back the original icons at least

    That might deal with pinning but I'm not even seeing the original apps on the ALL APPS screen.

    I'm not even sure if I can find the original DVD that came with the system. I wonder if there is a partition on my computer that might allow me to refresh it from there? I'll have to look into that.

    This whole Windows 8 adventure is turning out to be a nightmare. I think I'm leaving my other computers at Windows 7.

    I have made a video and will post a link in about 10 minutes showing what happens.

    I clicked on the Location link & downloaded.
    Find it attached.I had to put it in a folder & zip it to attach it.
    Try the download link before trying the zipped up file.
    BTW-- Have you tried running:

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    in the administrator command prompt & THEN sfc /scannow ?

    That Link and the file it downlaods are HIGHLY suspicious, are you positive they originated from Microsoft? It's not a Microsoft SITE.

    The file I used definitely came from Microsoft. I sent an email using this link (Microsoft Support). My email came as a result of their "contact us" page.

    AND my problem started prior to ever downloading anything, and nothing has change for better or worse, and my virus software isn't detecting anything. Not a virus, unless Microsoft sent it because I sent an email through their site.

    Ok, I just scanned it, it is legit. Try a system restore to before you applied the "fix"

    No restore DVD. I can't find the original. Can a restore be done without one? Doubtful. The hotfix would not execute for my system.

    I'm on my phone using the forum app so I can't see your system. How about AV or firewall? Something may be blocking refreshing?

    The thing is, a lot of other people have had this problem too. Microsoft has come out with a hotfix. So it's not likely it's my firewall or AV. But I'll look at it anyway, just to be thorough.

    Yes, and strangely in the Modern/Metro interface layer, but not the screen itself.

    Just for grins, have you tried:

    Tried it, from your suggestion, no help. Looks like I'm going to have to make the dreaded call to Microsoft, when I get 10 more hours to kill.

    The other clue is "Settings". When I click that and then "Change PC Settings" that doesn't work either.

    This brings up a good point though. How does one get tiles back, when they dissappear. I tried installing another program just to see if that added any and it didn't.

    I'm now going to try restoring to a restore point I had for 2 weeks ago. Nothing has been added since then, except some emails. Fingers crossed again.
