Odd Issue with Needing to Restart Windows After Sleeping

So usually I'm the one with the answers but I can't seem to figure this one out.

I have an Asus UX31A with WIndows 8 Enterprise VL. Helpdesk at work is useless so I'm turning to y'all.

Every time I wake the system from sleep, I hear the system chime as if a device is attached, unattached, and re-attached. I don't know what as it happens at the login screen and I'm not fast enough to see if anything appears in the taskbar. After logging in, I get this window (see below; I had to remove a couple things I don't know if I can show). If I follow its directions, I restart and go about life until I put the system to sleep again in which the process repeats. As I write this I'm finishing a bunch of updates so perhaps that has something to do with it (I have a lot of Office and SP1 for SQL Server that I've been putting off along with a healthy swath of optional OS updates).

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Did that still happened after the updates?
Might be a hardware change or a software one (in use, feature-related since it asks for reboot...).

I'm no expert but at least something should be noted about that in Event Viewer (see the time stamp of the events to match with the time when the issue happened) .

You might try an automatic logon temporarily to see if you get to the desktop fast enough.

Good luck.

Yes. It only happens once per restart, though.

I'm no expert but at least something should be noted about that in Event Viewer (see the time stamp of the events to match with the time when the issue happened) .

I did that earlier and I found entries for installing the service for itpcdless.inf which is for the Microsoft mice/keyboards. Uninstalling the drivers for my microsoft mouse makes it go away. I thought it may be what came down from WU for my mouse, but a clean install from the Web didn't have any effect. Removing my mouse dongle from the system also makes it stop.

This is a mild inconvenience since as long as I don't restart, it will never happen again... It just sucks I haven't figured out why it keeps doing this every time the system restarts and is put to sleep.

I also can't do autologon for security reasons (I use this system a lot at work).

That's really odd, it is as if you made major changes requiring a reboot. Even attaching a device and then taking it off then reattaching it, would not do this.

What you ought to do is when you see that message, check your Task Manager to find out what is originating it, that way you can find out what is causing it.

Alright. that is not a major issue in my opinion too. Maybe some newer driver for the mouse, if available, can fix this for good. (the inf file doesn't work perfectly fort that mouse so it seems).

I also can't do autologon for security reasons (I use this system a lot at work).
That's understandable. No need to autologon since the mouse seems to be the issue then.

I got one of those older Wireless mice that I don't use anymore, seemed to be one of the first generations and Vista always had bluescreens: removed the mouse (was reported as a solution online: they recommended newer drivers of course) and no more bluesscreens there. That's why I believe newer mouse driver or hardware should fix this.

Personally I prefer cheap IR or LED mice with cable instead of Wireless ones because of the stability and simplicity + wifi needs to drain extra power from battery's that are needed.

I have a USB optical mouse at work that i can try tomorrow. I'll try to make sure it's a MS mouse to see if it is indeed the driver.
