Every time I remove my data stick from the usb port my computer shuts off. I have used the drive tools function to "eject" the drive but it still shuts off. I'm new to WIN 8 and can't navigate very well in this new system to find any answers. If anyone has any ideas why this happens your help would be appreciated.

Welcome. Well, that's a new problem for us. Can't imagine why it's happening. Can't tell if your computer is an OEM preinstalled Win8. But, if it is, you might contact your OEM's support. Also, if newly purchased, then I'd return it and start over. Not sure if your computer is new or not, but I always return if I have a problem out of the box. Might help if you filled out your system specs more completely.

He said he was ejecting it first. Yes, this is very odd, I've never heard of this happening. I'll look it up, see if I can find anyone else it happened to.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
\Yes it is a new computer with win 8 preloaded on it. As for specs I only know the basics... AMD A8 processor 8 gb Ram ... 1 usb 2.0 and 2 usb 3.0 ports. The 2.0 port is the one I was using for the data stick. The first time I removed the stick I just pulled it out of the port, which is how I have always removed them on previous win versions with no problems. I also tried to format the stick with win 8 and nothing changed. I will try a different stick when I get one. .If that doesn't work its going back to store.

When it shuts down does it go through a log off process or just immediately turn off like it is crashing? Does it do it with different USB sticks and in every USB port?

Yes, if the new stick doesn't work, then I'd return it.

Well I tried a new data stick and the computer didn't shut off. I guess that means there is a problem with the data stick, although it works in my wife's Win 7 machine without problems. I'm still taking the machine back to store though. If they find something I will post the solution here.

If the computer shuts off without a log off screen is that a crash?
