AutoPlay Ask Me Window

I've set the AutoPlay option for some devices to "Ask me every time".
When AutoPlay is activated on those devices, I get kind of a notification box at the upper right of the screen (that fades away) that I have to click on to get my choices of what to do. Is there a way to have it just open the old style window on my desktop that shows the options?

No, that's the new way in Windows 8, you hit the notification to see the options.

What if you were in an app and plugged a USB drive in? It would get annoying if it ripped you from that app to the Desktop to see that dialog box. Or if you were on Start as well.

Windows 8 isn't really meant for the "old fashion."
