touch pad problem

Hi, I have just brought a new laptop with windows 8 on it, but if I tap the touch pad more than twice it locks and a small box appears in the right hand corner with a red cross in it,does anybody know how to solve this.

I believe its telling you thats its disabled..

Right above the touchpad is a rectangular button

above that should be an led

red led = disabled

white led = enabled

Is the LED white or red?

What model is your laptop?
