Before I came in here to ask for help I read through a number of messages online from various people who have had or having similar problems to me. I'm not sure which is to come first, the chicken or the egg!

My WMC has been working just fine since it was released for Win8. I opened the programme today to check tv programmes only to find that "Viewing or Listening Conflict - No tuner available to satisfy the current request".

I have a TV Tuner card : AVerMedia H751 Hybrid Analog/DVB-T with the latest and only drivers installed. by visiting AVer Media website.

When I did a compatibility test for Win8 there was no conflict, hence I've been viewing TV with WMC until today.

What happened today, nothing that I know of. Windows update yesterday, so I did a system restore, no such luck it made no difference.

My system is Wndows 8 Pro with Media Centre
Intel Core i5 CPU
320GHz
8Gb RAM
64 bit OS

My husband's computer is on the same line for TV and his WMC is working just fine so it's not the connections from the wall unit to PC.

At the moment I'm open to suggestions of what I could try next.

Thank you.

I like having system images for these occasions but file scans may help. :)

Open Administrator command prompt and try running #1 command first, hit enter and let it run to fix problems.

1. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Then run the standard sfc/scannow command, reboot cross fingers.

I have since removed not only the driver but the card too. I put the card in another Win8 PC and it is functioning fine with WMC.

I then put it back into my machine, rebooted PC and hoped that Windows 8 would pick up new hardware and or install drivers. No such luck. It seems my Windows 8 is not recognising the hardware, do you have any ideas why?

Hi there
try RESTORING your entire system from a backup image from the time it was all working -- you DO have backup don't you !!. This should fix the entire problem.

If you DON'T have a backup image then once you've fixed the problem TAKE REGULAR BACKUPS.
Sometimes for reasons best known to itself Windows can get hosed -- and often rather than spending a lot of time trying to find out what happened just restore.

I don't know also about 'OZ but in a lot of places the old Analog TV systems are being or have been phased out so it might be worth while totally re-installing WMC again and going through the initial set ups where it will possibly start with the Digital terrestrial TV tuner.

IMO the future way of receiving TV etc is via streamed internet where you won't need a tuner card - but until you have fast broadband with decent Video on demand services the tuner card might still be the best option.

As a test --if you don't have a backup of the system when it was working Backup your system now with Free Macrium and re-install W8 from scratch. Shouldn't take long. W8 installs very quickly.

Now install WMC again and test the tuner. and if it doesn't work then your MOBO is broken or defective.

You can restore your system again from the backup just taken above if it still doesn't work.

Cheers
jimbo

Finally after another few hours I removed the hardware and driver and shut down my PC.

Inserted the card and booted up. Opened Device Manager and of course there is no driver for the TV Tuner card, however I saw in 'Other' multimedia controller with a yellow triangle. I did a right click, add new hardware, searched for the drivers and lo and behold, it worked!!!!!
The TV Tuner card is now being recognised and WMC is currently searching for TV channels to my delight.
I just don't understand why Windows 8 is not automatically recognising new hardware. Perhaps something I need to take up with Microsoft.

Thank you all for your input it's been helpful.

I've got the same problem with my Falcon card, because there is a remote for it I need as well, it has to be detected by Media Centre before it will activate the tuner. Do you have a remote for your card?
